Collection of RECENT BUYS (Summary) - June 2015

Since I began investing in dividend stocks approximately two years ago I've been keeping a personal log of what other dividend bloggers and dividend investors are buying.  Until now, I've just done it for my own personal knowledge and it has proven to be a great resource I use when I have no idea what I should buy.

The collection essentially highlights the Recent Buys I have discovered throughout the dividend blog community. I always like to see what others are buying.  And with this collection, one can easily see all the buys in one centralized source.  In November of 2014, I started making my collection of Recent Buys available on my blog for everyone. I Hope everyone has found it to be a great resource!

In case you just want a quick summary of what everyone has been buying this past month, below is a chart that depicts just that! :)
(The chart and table above only includes companies with more than 3 buys)

With Greece back in the news, the buying activity certainly picked up once again around the DGI community. In fact, since we've started to blog our Collection of Recent Buys, June saw the highest number of buys ever found throughout the DGI community in a single month.  In all, a total of 73 buys were found throughout the month of June.  In fact, since there were so many buys logged this past month, we decided to only chart those companies with more than 3 buys.  In past months, we had previously included all companies with 2 or more buys.

To summarize, out of a total of 73 buys found around the DGI community, a total of 42 companies were purchased, with 15 companies bought more than once.

  1. The most popular company this past month (and for the second consecutive month) was: Union Pacific Corp (UNP)which was purchased by 6 different investors throughout the DGI community.
  2. In second place was W.P. Carey Inc (WPC), which was purchased by 5 different investors throughout the DGI community.
  3. Third place was a tie between Johnson and Johnson (JNJ) and Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM) with a total of 4 buys.

The following companies each had 3 buys (5 total)

  • Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD), Travelers Company (TRV), Coca Cola Company (KO), Ventas, Inc (VTR), Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS).

And although not included in the chart, the following companies each had 2 buys (6 total)

  • T.Rowe Price (TROW), Omega Healthcare Investors Inc (OHI),  Baxter International Inc (BAX), HCP Inc (HCP), Wal-Mart Stores (WMT), Oneok Inc (OKE).

We are happy to say, our family was certainly active during the recent buying frenzy this past month.  During the month of June, we picked up shares in XOM, OHI, WMT, OKS, and VZ for our family's dividend stocks portfolio.  After two straight months of light stock buying activity, we are thankful to see this month's turnaround. Hopefully, the market continues to react to Greece news and provide us long term investors with more opportunities to buy quality stocks on sale!!

What have you been buying?  Please feel free to share in the comments or send me a link to your Recent Buy post in case I happened to have missed it.

Don't forget to bookmark or add this page to your favorites!!

If you have a chance, make sure you take a look at my Collection of Stock Analyses!! As with my collection of recent buys, my goal is to make this collection also become a centralized source for everyone. It could become a place where one can get ideas on what to invest in next, to establish a desired stock purchase price, or simply to see what your favorite bloggers are buying.  Whatever your reason, my hope is that this collection proves to be a great reference tool and helps provide you that little extra advantage that you are looking for in order to succeed with your investing.

RECENT BUY - (NYSE : XOM)

WE RECENTLY PURCHASED THE FOLLOWING

EXXON MOBIL CORP (XOM)
Purchased 5 shares of XOM on 6/26/2015 at $83.50
Total Spent: $417.50
$14.60 added to annual dividends

On Thursday, we purchased Omega Healthcare REIT Investors, Inc (OHI) based on the results from our recent ASK THE READERS post.  With some extra funds laying around, we decided to also pick up share in Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM) which appeared to be our readers second pick. Since we already own shares of XOM, and the current price did allow us to average down our cost basis a bit, we decided to buy 5 shares of XOM on Friday, 6/26/15 at $83.50.

With this purchase, we now own 11 total shares of XOM in our family's dividend stocks portfolio. The purchase, however, did not add a new holding to our family's dividend stocks portfolio, which remains at a total of 40 different dividend paying stocks/ETFs in the portfolio. Our estimated forward dividends grew another $14.60, putting our yearly dividends at approximately $2,907/year (excluding our Edwards Jones account) and $3,289/year (including our Edward Jones account).

ASK THE READERS - Should I buy XOM, OHI, WMT?

We started this series back in November as a way to add some fun to our buying process. We plan to continue doing these Ask the Reader post once a month (except when funds are limited) and will be maintaining the stocks purchased in a separate portfolio just to see how they perform.

The three stocks we have chosen are stocks that are currently at the top of our watch list and thus stocks we would be comfortable buying regardless of the outcome.  But we thought it would be fun to get our readers input and see if collectively, we can all beat the market with this interactive portfolio. :)

For each ASK THE READER post, we will select 3-4 current stocks on our watch list that we feel are worth buying.  But to add some fun into our buying process, we have decided to put our faith in our fellow bloggers and readers once a month.

Please spend a few minutes to vote for ONE stock from the companies listed below.  Tell us why you like the stock that you picked.

RECENT BUYS (NYSE: JNJ and XOM)

WE RECENTLY PURCHASED THE FOLLOWING

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ)
Purchased 8 shares of JNJ on 3/11/2015 at $99.00
Total Spent: $792.00
$22.40 added to annual dividends

Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM)
Purchased 6 shares of XOM on 3/10/2015 at $84.31
Total Spent: $505.86
$16.56 added to annual dividends

Our Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) purchase was based on the results from our recent ASK THE READERS post.  It took several weeks before we made our purchase because JNJ saw a brief spike right after we had posted our poll results.  In fact, JNJ was above $103 just a week ago. With that said, we were glad that we had an opportunity to buy JNJ at $99.00.  It is definitely a stock we plan to keep in our portfolio for the long haul.

As for our Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM) purchase, we just couldn't resist buying into the stock after we saw it reach the 52-week low.  After all, it's a company that has paid a dividend for over 130 years with 32 consecutive years of dividend increases and at a yield above 3%!  We realize that there is still a rocky road ahead for energy and oil stocks but as with JNJ, we plan to keep XOM for the long haul and have no doubt that oil and gas prices will eventually recover.

With the recent purchases, we added 2 NEW stocks to our family's dividend stocks portfolio. So with our recent purchases, we now hold a total of 36 stock/ETF in our family's dividend stocks portfolio.

With the purchases mentioned above, our estimated forward dividends grew another $38.96 and now stands at approximately $3,133/year in dividends.
