RECENT BUY : Ladder Capital Corp (NYSE: LADR)

WE RECENTLY PURCHASED THE FOLLOWING

Ladder Capital Corp (LADR)
Purchased 50 shares of LADR on 4/25/2017 at $13.75

Total money spent: $687.50
$63.00 added to annual dividends

We have continued to actively purchase shares of dividend stocks, but admittedly it has been quite some time since we have written post of a recent buy. We just thought we'd share this one as it does not seem to be as popular in the dividend stock investing community. We had a family member, who currently owns this stock, recommend it to us earlier this year.  So we started watching Ladder Capital Corp (LADR) around February and finally saw a good entry point when the stock dipped recently below $14.00.

Since we did not previously own shares in Ladder Capital Corp (LADR), the recent purchase not only added $63.00 to our forward dividends but also became the 61st different dividend paying stocks/ETFs in our family's Dividend Stocks Portfolio.

They additional $63.00 added to our annual dividends puts our yearly dividends at approximately $3,295/year (excluding our Edwards Jones account) and $3,795/year (including our Edward Jones account).

RECENT BUY : V.F. Corporation (NYSE: VFC)

We Recently Purchased The Following:

V.F. Corporation (VFC)
Purchased 7 shares of VFC on 2/3/2017 at $49.58
Total Spent: $347.05; added $11.76 in forward dividends.

On January 26, we posted that we purchased 8 shares of V.F. Corporation for our Family's Dividend Stocks Portfolio.  At the time, we already felt that VFC was attractively priced.  Needless to say that when the stock price dipped below $50, we took the opportunity to add a few more shares to our current holdings.

On February 3, we decided to pull the trigger and add 7 more shares of V.F. Corporation to our Family's Dividend Stocks portfolio.  So with our recent purchase, we now own 15 total shares in VFC that provides us with a total of $25.20 in dividends per year.  We plan to continue watching VFC to see if it dips any further.

From our research, we are attracted by the 3% plus yield, manageable payout ratio and the long dividend history that VFC offers.  We believe that VFC is a good long term hold that offers a nice risk/reward ratio. Nevertheless, we understand that everyone has their own risk tolerance and stock screening methods. With that said, please make sure to do your own research when buying any stocks.

Purchased 8 shares of VFC on 1/26/2017 at $52.00
Total Spent: $416.00; added $13.44 in forward dividends.

Based on our Collection of Recent Buys chart, it appears that VFC, TGT and UL are clear favorites among DGI investors this month.  I think we could make an argument to buy any one of the three mentioned but since our family already own shares in the other two, we decided to add V.F. Corporation (VFC) to our portfolio.  With the recent purchase, the number of companies held in our family's dividend stocks portfolio that pay us dividends is at an even 60

RECENT BUY: Unilever Plc (NYSE: UL)

We Recently Purchased The Following:

Unilever PLC (UL)
Purchased 12 shares of UL on 11/18/2016 at $38.72
Total Spent: $464.64; added $16.80 in forward dividends.

After seeing some recent buying activity among DGI investors, we decided to do some further research into Unilever PLC (UL) to try and figure out why the price has dropped in recent weeks and also if it is a good long term buy for our family's dividend stocks portfolio

So from what we found, it appears that after reaching an all time high of $48.97 back in September, UL's stock price has slid a little over 20% down to today's trading at just under $39! So why did this leading consumer goods company experience this recent drop? We believe the price drop is currency related and a slow down that was evident from the 3rd quarter report.  Not to mention the fact that consumer staples have simply been on a steady decline since the U.S. election ended.

Here were the main reasons why we bought Unilever PLC (UL) stock:
  1. The improved dollar strength has made UL more attractive for US investors.
  2. UL is an international dividend payer that have been paying dividends to investors since 1937.
  3. UL has increased dividends for last 20 years in a row. If we look at historical data, going as far back as 1996, the company has actually managed to double distributions every nine years on average!
  4. Due to the recent price decline, the current dividend yield is an attractive 3.59%.
  5. Although uncommon for a European stock, Unilever pays quarterly dividends!
Company Description
The company is dually listed in the U.K. and the Netherlands. There are two classes of ADRs available for US investors, one for the U.K. listing - Unilever PLC (UL) and the other being Unilever N.V. (UN) in the Netherlands.

With our recent purchase of Unilever PLC (UL), the estimated forward dividends for our family's dividend stocks portfolio grew another $16.80, putting our yearly dividends at approximately $3,387/year (excluding our Edwards Jones account) and $3,772/year (including our Edward Jones account).

RECENT BUY: Orchids Paper Products Company (NYSE: TIS)

We Recently Purchased The Following:

Orchids Paper Product Company (TIS)
Purchased 20 shares of TIS on 10/27/2016 at $24.33
Total Spent: $486.00; added $28.00 in forward dividends.

Orchids Paper Products Company (formed in April 1998) is a small cap Oklahoma-based manufacturer of tissue paper products. It's better known for selling for selling Colortex, Soft & Fluffy and Tackle tissue Investors who are interested in having defensive stocks in their portfolios should be looking at Orchids Paper since its products aren't subject to the fluctuations of the economy.

It is true...Orchids Paper has had a volatile year so far.  TIS has seen its stock price go from $30.50 in early January to as high as $36.31 in early July but has since continued to dip to its current stock price of $24.31. The stock decline is likely due to having missed expectations in both the 2nd and 3rd quarters. However, we believe that this bearish turn provides investors with a good opportunity to take a look at the stock and decide whether its 5.65% dividend yield is a good enough inducement to pick it up. After all, a $10,000 investment in Orchids Paper provides $565 a year in passive income, which is the best for its peer group.

Here were the main reasons why we bought Orchids Paper Products Company (TIS) stock:
  1. We believe that it has good prospects from its ongoing expansion.
  2. We believe their balance sheet is stable and only mildly leveraged.
  3. We think it's undervalued compared to market estimates and other small cap stocks.
  4. We would be lying if we didn't say that we also like the dividend yield!
  5. And as a bonus, since we purchased the stock before its recent Ex-Dividend date, we won't have to wait long to receive a dividend payout for this purchase!!
