RECENT BUY - (NYSE : UNP)

WE RECENTLY PURCHASED THE FOLLOWING

Union Pacific Corp (UNP)
Purchased 6 shares of UNP on 7/23/2015 at $93.33
Total Spent: $559.98
$13.20 added to annual dividends

We have been watching Union Pacific Corporation (UNP) for while now and our interested only grew even more recently after seeing several bloggers post their Recent Buy of UNP.  Since we are trying to build and keep a portfolio of stocks for years to come, it makes sense to grab a few shares in the largest US railroad, right?

Union Pacific, founded in 1862, operates 32,000 miles of track that spans across 23 states. Plus, UNP connects with Canada's rail system. And they are also the only railroad that serves all six major Mexico gateways. In fact, the 2014 carload composition was 61% domestic and 39% international. UNP, therefore, clearly has some international exposure, which is one of the criteria we like to see from our stocks.

With our recent purchase of UNP, we added $13.20 in forward dividends to our family's dividend stocks portfolio. This now puts our yearly dividends at approximately $2,663/year (excluding our Edwards Jones account) and $3,021/year (including our Edward Jones account).

Our recent purchase of UNP also added a new holding to our family's dividend stocks portfolio. We now have a total of 43 different dividend paying stocks/ETFs in our family's dividend stocks portfolios (WF and EJ Accounts).  We also own stocks in 4 companies that either don't pay a dividend our has currently suspended their dividends.

  2. Excellent purchase, AFFJ. Cant go wrong investing in UNP - and its finally in its fair value range now that its in low-90s. And its hardly available at such good valuation.

Congrats on adding this to your portfolio!

  3. Interesting buy, AFFJ.

Over here in the UK there is not really an equivalent sector. Certainly none of the super-sized rail freight companies like you have in the US (or, at least, I don't know about them!).

    1. Well, definitely stick with what you are familiar with Dividend Drive. Not discouraging you from getting international exposure and especially US market since it has been doing so well in the recent years. Just make sure you do you homework. ;)

  5. AFFJ,

Nice purchase - I know I've bought NSC and looking to scoop up more. Looks like you got a great price and can hopefully average down if there's another decline! Congrats.

    1. Thanks Lanny. We were happy with our purchase and felt we got a nice value at our entry price. Nevertheless, should UNP continue to decline, we wouldn't have any problems averaging down.

Thanks for stopping by. Hope you have a fantastic week to come! AFFJ

  6. Solid buy. They are high on my list for a new purchase to compliment NSC and CSX. This seems like a good opportunity to start slowly dollar-cost-averaging into shares since energy transports could be depressed for a while.

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks AAI. I completely understand the allure behind UNP with its long dividend history and impressive growth rate. With a reasonable yield and low payout ratio, UNP appears destined to continue its positivity ways for years to come.

Thanks for stopping by and comment. Best wishes! AFFJ
