RECENT BUY - (NYSE : CVX)

WE RECENTLY PURCHASED THE FOLLOWING

CHEVRON CORPORATION (CVX)
Purchased 5 shares of CVX on 7/06/2015 at $95.00
Total Spent: $475.00
$21.40 added to annual dividends

For our last purchase in June (on 6/26), we ended up picking up a few shares of Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM), which was our readers 2nd pick from our recent ASK THE READERS post.

On Monday (7/6), we decided to pick up a few more shares of CVX (Chevron Corporation) to average down our cost basis. With our recent purchase, we now own 10 total shares of CVX in our family's dividend stocks portfolio.  The cost basis for our CVX shares is now $97.50.  Our estimated forward dividends grew another $21.40, putting our yearly dividends at approximately $2,928/year (excluding our Edwards Jones account) and $3,310/year (including our Edward Jones account).

Monday's purchase, however, did not add a new holding to our family's dividend stocks portfolio, which remains at a total of 40 different dividend paying stocks/ETFs in the portfolio

  1. Great purchase, AFFJ. People have been running screaming around that this is the end of Big oil and the dividend streak will be lost - I disagree...I think its a great time to buy these fantastic companies. I would love to add more to my CVX position...I sure could use the lower prices to average down.

    cheers

    1. I'm with you. I am in big oil for the long haul and think today's prices offer a nice value for us long term investors. With this current dip in prices, we've taken the opportunity to add shares in both XOM and CVX.

Cheers to future dividends and growth! AFFJ

  2. Great buy AFFJ. We last bought Chevron at $100, and were hoping to get to average down around $90. I'm with you, their dividends are safe as long as WTI doesn't go below $45 for more than a couple months. Looking at add soon

    1. Bryan - we initially picked up CVX at $100 also. We decide not to wait to pick up shares but did leave some money on the sideline in case we get the opportunity to average down further. Certainly glad we get 100 free trades a year because it allows us the luxury of making trades in smaller amounts. 👍😊

Best wishes...hope Mr.Market provides you the opportunity to average down as well. AFFJ

  3. AFFJ,

I like the average down approach. They'll be back to increasing their dividend here soon, with the stall this year, they are a behemoth and will be back on track. Nice job!

    1. Yes, a behemoth like CVX and/or XOM are almost certain to bounce back. We plan to continue purchase oil stocks but will only pick up BIG oil like CVX and XOM.

To future growth and dividends! AFFJ

  4. Great buy, AFFJ. I also bought CVX last month of June and looking for some pull back to buy more. It is quite possible that oil may slide some more and we can add to more positions in CVX :)

    1. Thanks Race2Retirement. You had quite a few nice buys yourself. You are making great progress towards your goal of $3,000 in 3,000 days!

There is quite a few attractive buys out there but I would welcome the opportunity to add more shares in a company like CVX should the opportunity presents itself.

Cheers to growing that passive income stream! AFFJ

  5. Hi AFFJ,

Sounds like a great buy, going against market sentiment, and some pretty good stats on CVX. I only stick to stocks in my local Australian market at the moment (major home bias!), but would love to own some of these US stocks, including CVX. I really need to expand my horizons beyond our beautiful Australian shores...

    Cheers,

    Jason

    1. Jason - not a bad thing to stick with what you know. I like to diversify out into international stocks myself but find it very challenging to stay on top of things when I do. I've definitely have had better luck with what I know. AFFJ

  6. I can't believe that CVX is trading this low! And it yields more than 4.5% now... driving your cost basis down in this way is a smart move!

    Take care

  7. Hey AFFJ,

Excellent buy there! I bought CVX back when it was at around $106 at the start of the year. I'm very tempted to average down now that it's experiencing a big dip. Let's just hope they don't break their dividend streak!

    Cheers,

    1. Thanks Dividend Legion. I'll secretively hope you get the opportunity to average down yourself.

There are several who believe that the streak will be broken this year but I'm staying on the optimistic side for now. AFFJ
