Net Worth (Year-End Update)

Originally, I was only planning to provide annual Net Worth updates.  However, since I am now part of an active list of bloggers who provide their net worth on Rockstar Finance's page - The Ultimate List of Blogger Net Worth, I have decided to start providing quarterly updates.  Providing quarterly updates will allow us to keep our readers more updated with our overall progress towards Financial Independence. It will also allow us to stay accurate and current on the Rockstar Finance's Ultimate List of Blogger Net Worth. ;)

To close the year, our family net worth is as follows:

Retirement Savings:                      $ 410,707
P2P Lending Accounts:                   $  17,707
Dividend Stock Accounts (DSA):     $   73,520
DSA - Surplus Cash:                      $    5,779
College Savings Accounts:              $  54,867
Cash and Savings:                         $  74,684

GRAND TOTAL
$637,264
(Increase of $8,068 since 9/31/15)

Although we do not count it as part of our Net Worth,
it is still nice to know that our Home Equity is:
$451,668*
(Decrease of $12,003 since 9/31/15)

In the 3rd quarter, we reported that our Net Worth saw its first decrease since we began reporting it. Glad to be reporting that we seem to be back on track as we saw an increase of $8,068 during the last quarter of the year. So as we start out 2016, out family Net Worth now stands at $637,264.

Although we don't consider our home equity as part of our Net Worth, we understand that some people do.  So to be fully transparent, we would like to report that our home equity shrank $12,003 this past quarter and now stands at $451,668.

So for those who include home equity in their Net Worth, our family's net worth would be considered: $1,088,932.  It's a pretty awesome figure when you include the home equity but until we can accumulate 7 figures without our home equity, I refuse to consider myself a millionaire.

* Although others do consider home equity, and even cars, collections, etc. as part of their net worth, it is our opinion that since these items are not very liquid and the value of these items is highly dependent on what others are willing to pay for them (at the present time), we have decided not to consider these type of assets as part of our family's recognized net worth.

Net Worth (3rd Quarter Update)

Originally, I was only planning to provide annual Net Worth updates.  However, since I am now part of an active list of bloggers who provide their net worth on Rockstar Finance's page - The Ultimate List of Blogger Net Worth, I have decided to start providing quarterly updates.  Providing quarterly updates will allow us to keep our readers more updated with our overall progress towards Financial Independence. It will also allow us to stay accurate and current on the Rockstar Finance's Ultimate List of Blogger Net Worth. ;)

At the end of September 2015 (3rd Quarter), our family net worth is as follows:

Retirement Savings:                      $ 397,677
P2P Lending Accounts:                   $  17,472
Dividend Stock Accounts (DSA):     $   68,529
DSA - Surplus Cash:                      $    7,729
College Savings Accounts:              $  46,643
Cash and Savings:                         $  91,146

GRAND TOTAL
$629,196
(Decrease of $16,044 since 6/31/15)

Although we do not count it as part of our Net Worth,
it is still nice to know that our Home Equity is:
$463,671*
(Increase of $13,583 since 3/31/15)

I think I may have spoke to soon...during the last Net Worth, I said that "we have somehow managed to continue to grow our net worth each and every quarter."  Well, whether it is coincidental or not, the streak has now officially ended.

This past quarter, for the first time since we began tracking our net worth, our family saw in shrink by $16,044.  We had gone from from $645,240 at the end of June (2nd quarter) to $629,196 at the end of September (3rd quarter). Not sure how others did but our family would like to forget about this last quarter and simply look forward to next quarter.  After all, we did have a record quarter in terms of putting new capital to work for us.  In all, we put $10,117 of capital to work for us.  The monies invested is projected to provide $531.35 in forward dividends.  Hoping we see dividends, literally, in future months and net worth reports!!

Although we don't consider our home equity as part of our Net Worth, we understand that some people do.  So to be fully transparent, we would like to report that our home equity did grow $13,583. nevertheless, our Net Worth (with home equity included still decreased by $2,461 from $1,095,328 to $1,092,867.  It's a pretty awesome figure when you include the home equity but until we can accumulate 7 figures without our home equity, I don't consider myself a millionaire.

* NOTE: If you follow us, you know that we do not consider the home equity in our home as part of our net worth. Although others do consider home equity, and even cars, collections, etc. as part of their net worth, it is our opinion that since these items are not very liquid and the value of these items is highly dependent on what others are willing to pay for them (at the present time), we have decided not to consider these type of assets as part of our family's recognized net worth.

Net Worth (Update) - 2nd Quarter

Originally, I was only planning to provide annual Net Worth updates.  However, since I am now part of an active list of bloggers who provide their net worth on Rockstar Finance's page - The Ultimate List of Blogger Net Worth, I have decided to start providing quarterly updates.  Providing quarterly updates will allow us to keep our readers more updated with our overall progress towards Financial Independence. It will also allow us to stay accurate and current on the Rockstar Finance's Ultimate List of Blogger Net Worth. ;)

As of the end of June 2015 (2nd Quarter), our family net worth is as follows:

Retirement Savings:                      $ 403,419
P2P Lending Accounts:                   $  18,767
Dividend Stock Accounts (DSA):     $  66,797
DSA - Surplus Cash:                      $    7,492
College Savings Accounts:              $  40,178
Cash and Savings:                         $108,582

GRAND TOTAL
$645,240
(Increase of $6,894 since 3/31/15)

Although we do not count it as part of our Net worth,
it is still nice to know that our Home Equity is:
$450,088*
(Increase of $174 since 3/31/15)

I'm not sure if it is just me but I have to admit that I look forward to doing our Net Worth reports. Since we began tracking our Net Worth, we have somehow managed to continue to grow our net worth each and every quarter (although some quarters are clearly better than others).  We certainly have had down months in between but thankfully have always ended quarters with an overall gain.  Personally, I believe it is a combination of having an end goal and commitment to live below our means in order to achieve our goal. Although we do not post our income and expenses on our blog, we save or invest approximately 50% of our income each and every month.

During this last quarter, we saw our net worth grow by another $6,894, from $638,346 at the end of March (1st quarter) of 2015 to $645,240 at the end of June (2nd quarter) of 2015.

If you include our home equity, which some people choose to do, our net worth actually grew $7,068 from $1,087,464 to $1,095,328.  It's a pretty awesome figure when you include the home equity but the reality is we need our home for shelter and have no intention of selling it. Therefore, the home equity is locked into our home and simply is not liquid as our other investments. I'll still continue to calculate and show the numbers but won't consider myself a true millionaire until I can accomplish that feat without my home equity.  :)

As of the end of March 2015 (1st Quarter), our family net worth is as follows:

Retirement Savings:                       $ 397,431
P2P Lending Accounts:                    $  18,448
Dividend Stock Accounts (DSA):      $  65,487

Although we do not count it as part of our Net worth,
it is still nice to know that our Home Equity is:
$449,118*
(Increase of $7,929 since 12/31/14)

I'm not sure how others feel but I must admit that I look forward to doing our Net Worth reports. Thankfully, we have managed to continue to grow our net worth each and every quarter (although some quarters are clearly better than others).

During this last quarter, we saw our net worth grow by another $6,689, from $631,657 at the end of December (4th quarter) of 2014 to $638,346 at the end of March (1st quarter) of 2015.  If you include our home equity, which some people choose to do, our net worth actually grew $14,618 from $1,072,846 to $1,087,464.  It's a pretty awesome figure when you include the home equity but the reality is we need our home for shelter and have no intention of selling it the home equity is locked into our home and is therefore hardly liquid.  I'll still continue to calculate and show the numbers but won't consider myself a true millionaire until I can accomplish that feat without my home equity.  :)

Net Worth (Update) - 4th Quarter 2014

Originally, I was only planning to provide annual Net Worth updates.  However, since I am now part of an active list of bloggers who provide their net worth on Rockstar Finance's page - The Ultimate List of Blogger Net Worth, I have decided to start providing quarterly updates.  Providing quarterly updates will allow us to keep our readers more updated with our overall progress towards Financial Independence. It will also allow us to stay accurate and current on the Rockstar Finance's Ultimate List of Blogger Net Worth.

As of the end of December 2014 (4th Quarter), our family net worth is as follows:

Retirement Savings:                       $385,339
P2P Lending Accounts:                    $  17,952
Dividend Stock Accounts (DSA):      $  60,445
DSA - Surplus Cash:                       $    6,889
College Savings Accounts:               $  30,669
Cash and Savings:                          $130,363

GRAND TOTAL
$631,657
(Increase of $59,341 since 9/1/14)

Although we do not count it as part of our Net worth,
it is still nice to know that our Home Equity is:
$441,189*
(Increase of $15 since 9/1/14)

I'm not sure how other feel but I must admit that I look forward to doing our Net Worth reports. Thankfully, we have managed to continue to grow our net worth each and every quarter (although some quarters are clearly better than others).

During this last quarter, you've probably notice a large infusion of cash and savings.  This cash infusion comes with both good news and bad. The bad news is that my wife lost her great grandfather during the month of September. Her great grandfather was a very frugal man who lived and raised his family in the same house he grew up in. He never had a mortgage because the house was already paid off when he inherited it.  However, because of this and his frugal lifestyle, he amassed a pretty sizable nest egg.  And since her great grandfather truly valued education, he made sure that part of his money went towards college savings for grand kids, great grand kids, and great-great grand kids (he was 95 years old when he passed).

So during this last quarter, my wife and I inherited $30K, which we are planning to spread out into our kids college education throughout the 2015 calendar year. We feel very blessed to have this inheritance as it now reduces our obligation to save for our kids college and thus free up our money to invest for other reasons. My wife and I already decided that we plan to do the same for future generations to come.

NOTE: If you follow us, you know that we do not consider the home equity in our home as part of our net worth. Although others do consider home equity, and even cars, collections, etc. as part of their net worth, it is our opinion that since these items are not very liquid and the value of these items is highly dependent on what others are willing to pay for them (at the present time), we have decided not to consider these assets as part of our recognized family net worth.

Net Worth (Update) - 3rd Quarter 2014

Originally, I was only planning to provide annual Net Worth updates.  However, since I am now part of an active list of bloggers who provide their net worth on Rockstar Finance's page - The Ultimate List of Blogger Net Worth, I have decided to start providing quarterly updates.  Providing quarterly updates will allow us to keep our readers more updated with our overall progress towards Financial Independence. It will also allow us to stay accurate and current on the Rockstar Finance's Ultimate List of Blogger Net Worth.

As of the end of September 2014 (3rd Quarter), our family net worth is as follows:

Retirement Savings:                       $374,652
P2P Lending Accounts:                    $ 17,713
Dividend Stock Accounts (DSA):      $ 51,162
DSA - Surplus Cash:                       $ 14,305
Investment Accounts:                     $ 26,307
Cash and Savings:                          $ 88,177

GRAND TOTAL
$572,316
(Increase of $6,445 since 6/1/14)

As posted in our recent Mortgage Update, our Home Equity is:
$441,174
(Decrease of $1,764 since 6/1/14)

Well, even though this past quarter was not very impressive, I must say I am happy to report that our Net Worth continues to climb (albeit slower than we would have like).  With the market stumbling a bit lately, we are definitely glad we are not reporting a decrease to our Net Worth.

In the end, I'm happy to also say that we are still technically millionaires (on paper). Unfortunately, a millionaire in California (and especially Orange County), is nowhere near Financial Independence. We, therefore, will continue forward on our journey and hopefully we will reach the finish line in 13 years (or less). :)

Net Worth (Update) - 2nd Quarter 2014

Originally, I was only planning to provide annual Net Worth updates.  However, since I am now part of an active list of bloggers who provide their net worth on Rockstar Finance's page - The Ultimate List of Blogger Net Worth, I now feel that I need to start providing quarterly updates.  This will allow our readers more insight to our overall progress towards Financial Independence. It will also allow us to stay accurate and current on the Rockstar Finance's Ultimate List of Blogger Net Worth.
As of the end of June 2014, our family net worth is as follows:
Retirement Savings:                       $370,933
P2P Lending Accounts:                    $ 16,220
Dividend Stock Accounts (DSA):      $ 42,449
DSA - Surplus Cash:                       $ 23,789
Investment Accounts:                     $ 25,205
Cash and Savings:                          $ 87,275
GRAND TOTAL
$565,871
(Increase of $54,742 since 12/31/13)
Home Equity: $442,938

When I was younger, I always said I wanted to become a millionaire. Well, if you add our home equity (as some people actually do), I guess our family became millionaires this past month! Don't get me wrong, I am actually proud of the accomplishment. But maybe it's because of the my friends, my neighbors, or other people I have around me whom are way better off than me, I just see this milestone as simply another goal accomplished. Definitely not Financial Independence and definitely not the finish line.
