Net Worth (Update) - 1st Quarter 2015

Originally, I was only planning to provide annual Net Worth updates.  However, since I am now part of an active list of bloggers who provide their net worth on Rockstar Finance's page - The Ultimate List of Blogger Net Worth, I have decided to start providing quarterly updates.  Providing quarterly updates will allow us to keep our readers more updated with our overall progress towards Financial Independence. It will also allow us to stay accurate and current on the Rockstar Finance's Ultimate List of Blogger Net Worth. ;)

As of the end of March 2015 (1st Quarter), our family net worth is as follows:

Retirement Savings:                       $ 397,431
P2P Lending Accounts:                    $  18,448
Dividend Stock Accounts (DSA):      $  65,487
DSA - Surplus Cash:                       $    8,773
College Savings Accounts:               $  32,900
Cash and Savings:                          $115,307

GRAND TOTAL
$638,346
(Increase of $6,689 since 12/31/14)

Although we do not count it as part of our Net worth,
it is still nice to know that our Home Equity is:
$449,118*
(Increase of $7,929 since 12/31/14)

I'm not sure how others feel but I must admit that I look forward to doing our Net Worth reports. Thankfully, we have managed to continue to grow our net worth each and every quarter (although some quarters are clearly better than others).

During this last quarter, we saw our net worth grow by another $6,689, from $631,657 at the end of December (4th quarter) of 2014 to $638,346 at the end of March (1st quarter) of 2015.  If you include our home equity, which some people choose to do, our net worth actually grew $14,618 from $1,072,846 to $1,087,464.  It's a pretty awesome figure when you include the home equity but the reality is we need our home for shelter and have no intention of selling it the home equity is locked into our home and is therefore hardly liquid.  I'll still continue to calculate and show the numbers but won't consider myself a true millionaire until I can accomplish that feat without my home equity.  :)

* NOTE: If you follow us, you know that we do not consider the home equity in our home as part of our net worth. Although others do consider home equity, and even cars, collections, etc. as part of their net worth, it is our opinion that since these items are not very liquid and the value of these items is highly dependent on what others are willing to pay for them (at the present time), we have decided not to consider these type of assets as part of our family's recognized net worth.

  1. Great job. $6689 increase is awesome considering market's downturn last month. Keep up the great work!

    1. Thanks BSR...the market has been quite sensitive thus far this year. Hard to squeeze out any profits with all this volatility. Your up one week and down the next. We are just hoping that in the end (way down the road), we are up, way up! :)

      Thanks for stopping by. AFFJ

    1. Thanks R2R. I too love reading Income updates and/or Net Worth reports from fellow bloggers. In fact, that is part of the reason why I share ours. Well, that, and the fact that I like to know where I stand each quarter. :) Its like looking at a road map and seeing how far you have left to your final destination. AFFJ

  3. Great job with a solid increase for the quarter. Especially with the markets doing a lot of nothing. If the markets hold up y'all should cross the $1.1 M mark sometime this year including your home equity. That's pretty impressive. Keep up the good work!

    1. Thanks PIP. I'm with you on your sentiments of the markets. Up and down, up and down...not much overall gains seen this year so far. The good thing is we are adding more to our portfolio each time we see a softness in the market.

Thanks for stopping by, best wishes! AFFJ

  4. Very solid increase on your net worth, considering the markets have been quite volatile, you showed that you're doing quite well.

    1. Thanks Tawcan...we are certainly glad to be reporting a net worth report showing a gain and not a loss. But with the volatility in the market as you mentioned, our net worth does swing up in down daily! We just choose to keep our eyes down the road and simply not worry about the daily swings. Doing so, would only make us emotional investors. Plus, we like sleeping at night! heehee

    1. Ryan - glad to here you find inspiration from our blog and/or updates. Good to hear from another CA resident. As a CA resident, I suppose you could appreciate the sacrifices we've made to get this far, especially with most of the journey on just one income as my wife is a stay at home mom currently. :)

Thanks for the kind words, hope to hear from you on our next update!

      Best wishes!! AFF

  6. You're more gutsy than I am, firstly to calculate net worth monthly and then to post details here and on the Rockstar Finance page. Good for you!

    1. FerdiS - I think it made it easier to do so as an anonymous blogger. If you've notice, I don't really show pictures of my family, etc. I do worry about the potential security threats to my family and that is why I choose to do this blog somewhat faceless. In fact, even my extended family and friends have no idea I am doing this blog. It has made growing the blog more challenging without the support of family and friends but this was the only way I could get comfortable with being so revealing. AFFJ

    1. Thanks FFF. Glad to hear our results have helped your motivation to succeed. And yes, if we can do it, so can you! Just remember, the sacrifices you make today is for a better tomorrow.

Plant your seeds now and later you can sit back and collect from the seeds you've sown. :) AFFJ

  8. Thanks for sharing AFFJ. You're doing awesome. Like you I only show my Portfolio and investments. I remember reading Millionaire Next door and one of the phrase that stuck with me was that to be "Wealthy" one has to have 1 million in liquid assets. I like that. Our homes are definitely an asset and a liability at the same time but at least it keeps up with inflation but is so illiquid. You're doing fantastic and some would say you're already financial independent. However, the more passive income the better. :) Take care bud.

    1. Yes, I know everyone has a different thought on the subject of net worth and its OK to have different views. For us, we prefer to keep our home out of the net worth. Glad we have at least one more person who calculates their net worth as we do. However, I must say...it does make reaching that $1 million milestone a bit more difficult though. :)

Thanks for stopping by. wish you nothing but success! AFFJ

    1. Thanks for stopping by...hope we don't disappoint on our next Net Worth report. Our son just started pre-school 2 days a week (soon to be 3 days) so the needle hasn't moved much lately.

Regardless, we'll be posting 2nd quarter results in early July so be sure to check back then. AFFJ
