With everyone's help from our recent post ASK THE READERS - Should I buy BBL, UL, XOM, or BNS?, it was clear (based on the voting results) that many of you felt that BBL offered the best value out of the four stocks we had contemplated on buying.  As of this post, the currently tally was: BBL-7; UL-2 , XOM- 2,BNS-1.  In addition to the voting results, the stock also hit it's 52-week low yesterday.  Although we did not catch the stock at the bottom, we were still happy to have picked up some more shares of BHP Billiton Plc (BBL) for what we felt was a nice buy.

If you missed it, I had prepared a stock analysis of BBL back in May of this year where I concluded that I felt the stock was a good value under $60. Well, the stock has continued to dip and is now near $50 and my feelings haven't changed so took the opportunity to invest in a company I think is a good value at today's prices.

What are your thoughts about my recent purchase?

What are you buying?

  1. Fantastic buy, as I initiated a small position yesterday at what I considered great value. I was happy to buy into this company for the price, especially with the all time high market. It's up today so very glad I bought yesterday!!

    1. I agree Special Agent Dividend...now with the market back at its all time high, value plays are a bit harder to find than they were a month ago. Glad to hear you also had the opportunity to pick up some shares. AFFJ

  2. I really like the buy here. If i wasnt so heavy on energy already id be tempted to buy too. The stock has been near this price in the past and always recovered nicely.

    1. Thanks Captain...We definitely believe that the stock will eventually recover...BBL is a long term play for us and thus we don't mind sitting around collecting the almost 5% dividends while we wait for the stock price to recover. :) AFFJ

  4. AFFJ,

And it is BBL for the win! Great pick. I saw it drop into the $49.50 range yesterday and I was so close to buying some more shares. Great job as always!

Nice buy. I added to my position on Thursday as well after that drop. Couldn't pass it up.

I think you guys made a great decision. Should be an excellent long-term holding.

  7. Nice buy, this have been on my watch list but I have not initiated anything yet. I'm hoping it will stay low until beginning of next year so I can add new capital. Hope to see more of your portfolio.
