Dividend Stocks Portfolio (Update) - September 2014

Here is the recent update to our dividend stocks portfolio – September 2014.

SALES

As noted in the narrative for our dividend stocks portfolio, we are in the process of re-balancing our portfolio to meet our current stock criteria. Some of our holdings, therefore, do not reflect our current goals. We are in the process of selling a few of them as they reach our pre-established limit price.

We are now currently in the 5th month of re-balancing our portfolio. Our goal is to finish the transition sometime before the end of the year. Unfortunately, our re-balancing efforts was non-existent this month as we did not sell any shares in our portfolio this past month.

TOTAL VALUE OF ALL SALES: $0.00

OVERALL DECREASE TO ANNUAL DIVIDENDS: $0.00
Since we did not sell any shares this past month, that means our annual dividends did not decrease.

PURCHASES

Although we did not sell any shares, that did not stop us from picking up a few shares this past month.  With the recent dip early in the month, we took the opportunity to add some new companies to our family portfolio. In all, we made a total of 8 purchases during the month of August.  We initiated shares in 3 new companies that we previously had not owned.

The following are the actual buys that we made during the month of August:

TOTAL SPENT ON NEW ACQUISITION: $2,828.45*
*We receive 100 free trades per year through our brokerage account so there was no commission paid on this purchase.

As of 9/1/2014, we still have 29 free trades to make until 9/15/2014.  Our trade counter resets on 9/16/2014 and we will get another 100 free trades. Woohoo!

OVERALL INCREASE TO ANNUAL DIVIDENDS: $143.96
With the additional $143.96 in annual dividends, our new estimated annual income is now $1,824.68 or and average of somewhere near $152 a month. From where we were just a few months ago to where we are now, I am definitely happy with the progress we've made in just a short time period.  Can't wait to see where our journey leads us a year from now!

    1. Thanks R2R. Doing my best to continue growing our family's passive income stream. Finally starting to feel the compounding effect so I'm glad to have the additional wind (albeit small) behind our sail. :)

Thanks for visiting and for the continued support. Best Wishes! AFFJ

  2. Great progress. You made a lot of transactions this month, good for you. That's awesome that you have 100 free trades per year. That's a lot of money saved! :)

    1. Tawcan - Agreed! 100 free trades definitely saves us a lot of money. In fact, without them we probably wouldn't take the same approach. Likely purchase less frequently and in larger quantities to reduce our commission rates.

Definitely glad and feel blessed to have the free trades.

      Cheers! AFFJ

    1. Thanks for the words of encouragement W2R...we are definitely starting to see the compounding effect take place and it only provides us with an even greater incentive to keep this momentum going.

Cheers to increasing those annual dividends! AFFJ

  4. Good Month AFFJ and you bought a nice mixture of companies. You like the offshore drillers! Ive looked a little at ESV and SDRL..have never looked at RIG. Ill have to spend some time and do some more research. They are definetly high yielders!

    1. Thanks AA...I like the energy sector in general right now because I think there are a few nice value plays.

We are grabbing a few shares of off shore drillers right now as prices have seen some recent declines. Both ESV and RIG are less than 3% of our overall portfolio. We will keep buying if they continue to fall but I we will stop once their weight in our portfolio reaches 5%.

  5. I don't remember if you talked about this previously, but are these dividend producers in a tax efficient account? Just curious about your tax strategy. Thanks for the update!

    1. Our dividend stocks portfolio is not a tax efficient account. My wife and I do both have Roth IRAs where we also hold a few dividend growth stocks though.

  6. Solid month AFFJ. How is RIG treating you? I see it pop up on my screens every now and then but never took a close look at them.

    1. Thanks PMU...We just became a shareholder of RIG this past month. We've been watching RIG for a few months and figured we'd pick up a few shares as the prices have become fairly attractive with the recent decline. We are up roughly 1% as I write this comment. :)

    1. Thank you David...100 free trades are nice. With roughly 8 free trades a month, it allows us to make small and more frequent purchases. So far, that strategy seems to help us lower our risk as we are able to pick up a few extra shares here and there to average down our holdings when necessary.

    1. Thanks HH&WG. Free is always good right? :)

I like RIG, ESV, and even SDRL...but a few analyst are predicting a downtrend among these stocks so make sure to do your homework and find an entry price that you feel is worth the risk.

  9. AFFJ,

Gotta love 100 free trades! :)

Nice buys there across the board. AFL in particular seems like a no-brainer there. Nice move!

And congrats on the dividend income. You guys are averaging a really solid amount every month, and that all just gets you closer and closer to financial independence. Onward and upward! :)

    Keep up the great work.

    Best regards!

  10. AFFJ,

Great all around month of purchases and dividends. I will have to look at that Wells Fargo purchase plan. That is pretty awesome getting all those free trades. Keep up the exceptional work!

Cheers to growing that dividend pipeline! AFFJ

  11. Very nice purchases. I also purchased some VZ and MCD, albeit very small positions with my ongoing monthly investments in the companies. I'm envious with all those dividends you are racking up.

    1. Agent Dividend - glad to hear we are common shareholders in VZ and MCD. We feel both are great long term holds with dividends that one can depend on. VZ and MCD are companies that are not going anywhere, they seem to adapt well and find a way to continue to profit through the ups and downs.

Cheers to recieving dividends from VZ and MCD! AFFJ
