ASK THE READERS - Should I buy HCP, TIS, WPC?

HCP, TIS, WPC?

We started this series back in November as a way to add some fun to our buying process. We plan to continue doing these Ask the Reader post once a month (except when funds are limited) and will be maintaining the stocks purchased in a separate portfolio just to see how they perform.

The three stocks we have chosen are stocks that are currently at the top of our watch list and thus stocks we would be comfortable buying regardless of the outcome.  But we thought it would be fun to get our readers input and see if collectively, we can all beat the market with this interactive portfolio. :)

Below is a chart below of our ASK THE READER purchases to date:

For each ASK THE READER post, we will select 3-4 current stocks on our watch list that we feel are worth buying.  But to add some fun into our buying process, we have decided to put our faith in our fellow bloggers and readers once a month.

Please spend a few minutes to vote for ONE stock from the companies listed below.  Tell us why you like the stock that you picked.

Thanks in advance for your STOCK PICK!

    1. Thanks for your vote DivHustler...the 19 consecutive years of dividend increase is quite attractive so I'd be happy to buy in if the votes end that way. AFFJ

  2. AFFJ, HCP is a good choice, but it has some risks with its top tenant ManorCare. WPC is a bit more expensive in terms of valuation. I didn't review TiS before so I am impartial.
For me, I chose HCP over WPC, but it was close.

    1. Div Son - honestly, I'd be happy with both. Although I do agree with you that WPC is a bit more expensive.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving us with your vote. Best Wishes! AFFJ

  3. I like TIS here, simply because my REIT exposure is high right now. Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with any of these three options.

    1. TIS is attractive at current prices. Plus, we already own some shares so we'd be lowering our cost basis here. Thanks for commenting. AFFJ

  4. I like HCP myself, TIS looks pretty good as well.

    1. Tawcan - we currently own TIS and wouldn't mind lowering our cost basis here. Thanks for the vote my friend. AFFJ

  5. AFFJ,

I'll have to check, but I think I have bought shares of all three within the last month. They all still look good to me. If pressed, I would probably go with WPC.

    1. I just checked for you, and yes, you sure did buy all three. Way to go. All three companies are great deals and with some juicy yields! Keep adding to that pipeline. We'll definitely add your vote to the mix.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving us with your pick. AFFJ

  6. If I were to buy right now, my money would go to HCP. They are a proven company with dividend aristocrat under its belt, has a 5.7% yield with a decent growth (3.7% growth last time I checked).

Good luck on your pick and have a nice memorial weekend!

    1. Yes, love the yield and the growth is all too bad either. I especially like the 19 year history of dividend increases! would certainly be happy to own shares in HCP if it ends up being the top pick.

      Thanks for your vote. AFFJ

  7. Alright everyone....the current tally is:

    4 - HCP; 1 - TIS; 1 - WCP

Tomorrow is a holiday and the market is closed but we will likely pick up shares in the top pick sometime on Tuesday. Please continue to leave us with your vote.

    HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY EVERYONE! AFFJ

  8. My bias is for HCP. I recently started buying into the health REITs with buys in HCP, HCN and VTR. I guess it also depends on your current REIT exposure and how comfortable you are holding them. I still like HCP.

    1. DivHut, thanks for your vote. Good to hear your vote is for HCP. I've been following you for some time now and would place your investment style in the more conservative side of the spectrum. To hear you pick HCP, even with current exposure, speaks volumes.

      Thanks again. AFFJ

  9. All of them are great stocks. I have been really looking into buying great REITs lately and WPC and HCP are on my radar.

  10. Thanks everyone. I think the clear winner of these three is HCP. We've set a limit buy today for $38.75, hope we become fellow shareholders soon!

Thanks again to all who voted. AFFJ
