RECENT BUY - (NYSE : EMR)

WE RECENTLY PURCHASED THE FOLLOWING

EMERSON ELECTRIC (EMR)
Purchased 9 shares of EMR on 7/07/2015 at $55.00
Total Spent: $495.00
$16.92 added to annual dividends

With the China and Greece in the news, technical issues in the NYSE that halted trading for 3 hours, and further drop in oil prices (unfortunately not at the pump), Mr. Market provided everyone with additional opportunities to pick up shares or in our case average down our cost basis on a few long term holdings.

Back in October of 2014, we picked up 9 shares of EMR at $61.00.  On Tuesday (7/7), we decided to pick up 9 more shares of EMR (Emerson Electric) to average down our cost basis. With our recent purchase, we now own 18 total shares of EMR in our family's dividend stocks portfolio.  The cost basis for our EMR shares went from $61.00 to $58.00.  Our estimated forward dividends grew another $16.92, putting our yearly dividends at approximately $2,372/year (excluding our Edwards Jones account) and $2,754/year (including our Edward Jones account).

Tuesday's purchase, however, did not add a new holding to our family's dividend stocks portfolio, which remains at a total of 40 different dividend paying stocks/ETFs in the portfolio

  1. It seems a lot of us bought something last week AFFJ. Good job lowering your cost basis and increasing your dividend income. I'm not terribly familiar with Emerson's business lines, but 68 years of dividend payments certainly sounds reliable to me. Have a great week

    1. Last week, with the market glitch and Greece and China news, everyone was given a window of opportunity to snag some shares at great prices. Although some deals still exist this week, the prices are a bit higher this week.

We are buying EMR as a long term investment and like their track record, and of course, current valuations.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting Bryan.

  3. Nice job averaging down on this excellent company. Unfortunately I was waiting on cash to be moved around last week so I didn't get to make any purchases. But I'm ready now should we get more volatility this week.

    1. Thanks JC. There were a few other buys we wanted to make. But like you, we also needed to move some cash around. We are now ready with fresh capital, if another opportunity arises. But for now, it looks like things are on the rise again. :(

  4. Nice buy. EMR is very high on my watch list. Its also a sector I don't own so I like the idea of diversifying and expanding the portfolio. I hope it stays where it is for a few weeks. I don't buy again for a few weeks.

    1. Thanks Mike. Yes, EMR offers a great value right now given its long track record.

Hope you get the opportunity to add some shares in a couple of weeks. Diversification is generally always a good thing. :)

      Best wishes! AFFJ

  6. Love EMR at these levels. It has dropped quite a bit in recent weeks and is offering a good current yield as well as decent value at current prices. Nice pick up.

    1. R2R - thanks for the reinforcement. We own EMR and bought in at a higher price so couldn't resist the opportunity to lower our cost basis. We also love the track record and thus one of the reason we have decided to average down. AFFJ

  9. AFFJ,

EMR is a huge company. I see quite a few people that have owned or do own this company... and adding $17 in forward income is solid. I can't wait for my next purchase, getting that itching feeling again!

    1. EMR has been popular among DGI investors lately. For some reason, I seem to enjoying riding the wave of popularity. haha

can't wait for the new passive income to show up in the next quarters (and beyond) income reports.

Cheers to future dividends and hopefully stock growth as well. AFFJ
