On Tuesday and Wednesday, we purchased a few shares of Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM) and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), respectively. And today, with the another decline in the market, a total of 3 additional purchases were made when the stocks reach our limit price. So we took the opportunity to add shares of Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RDS-B), National Oilwell Varco, Inc (NOV), and Ensco Plc (ESV) to our family's dividend stocks portfolio.

We realize that there is still a rocky road ahead for energy and oil stocks but we truly believe that oil and gas prices will eventually recover and along with it would be a recovery in these stock prices. As we have seen with banks stocks since the huge collapse with lending industry in 2009, we remain confident that oil stocks will eventually recover. As long term investors, we therefore look at these moments as an opportunity to buy quality companies from out of favor sectors.

So with the recent purchases today, we added another NEW stocks to our family's dividend stocks portfolio. Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RDS) now brings our family's dividend stocks portfolio to a total of 36 stock/ETFs. National Oilwell Varco, Inc (NOV) and Ensco Plc (ESV) were companies we had already previously owned.

With the purchases mentioned above, our estimated forward dividends grew another $68.40 and now stands at approximately $3,223/year in dividends.

  1. AFFJ,

I love the bold moves. I jumped into Shell myself today. Considering my cost basis for ESV is around $42, I could easily lower it way down with a block purchase. That divvy cut is still stinging a bit so I may add to other energy names instead.

    Keep it up!

    1. Thanks MPD...aside from Shell, we were essentially trying to lower our cost basis a bit on ESV and NOV. The dividend cut definitely affected a annual payout a bit but I must say I had kind of expected it given the drop in oil prices and that others have already gone down that same path.

We don't expect oil and energy stocks to recover overnight, in fact probably not until sometime next year, but that is the beauty with being a long term investor. We don't mind picking up out of favor stocks and hanging on to them for a few years if there is growth potential there and some dividends to keep us somewhat happy while we wait. :)

Thanks for stopping by and for your comment. AFFJ

  2. AFFJ,

Love the recent purchases. We went back and forth yesterday about Shell but decided to go with Exxon Mobil instead. I'll have a write up this weekend. Keep up the great work.

    1. Both Shell and Exxon Mobil are now in our portfolio. Glad to hear you were torn between the two we currently own and not another company. :)

We'll keep an eye out for your write up and will make sure to include it in our Collection of Recent Buys. ;)

Thanks for the comment. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. AFFJ
