SALES
We are still trying to re-balance our portfolio as there are a few companies we simply view as short-term investments and thus do not plan to hang onto for the long term. However, we did not sell any shares in our portfolio this past month. On the positive side, since we did not sell any shares, that means that our annual dividends did not decrease.

PURCHASES
The month of January ended up being another very active month for us. We ended the month with a total of 8 buy transactions. Since we already had committed more cash than usual this month, we decided not to do an "Ask the Readers" post this month.
So out of the 8 transactions this past month, 6 were companies we had already owned and were merely buying more shares to lower our overall cost basis. The remaining 2 transactions were new companies that we decided to add to our family's dividend stocks portfolio. With our recent purchase of TD and CVX, our family dividend stocks portfolio now contains a total of 34 different companies/ETF that all pay us a dividend.

AFFJ,
ReplyDeleteThose are excellent buys and excellent dividends! Also 100 free trades a year translate to $695 that goes to your pocket! Mind if you share how to get the PMA plan, (if you wrote a post about it can you link it here?)
I googled PMA plan and it appears I need to have certain criteria needs to be met like linking accounts, I'll research some more and if I qualify I might switch. Thanks in advance!
FFF
Thanks FFF - we are very thankful for the 100 free trades. Without them, I think we would take a slightly different approach and buy larger quantities and less frequently.
DeleteSorry but I don't have a link to a post on how to get a PMA (I'm sensing that maybe I should though - haha). We have a PMA because our mortgage is through Wells Fargo. I believe if you have a total of $250K in either assets or debt (like mortgage) with WF, you automatically get a PMA account. In addition to 100 trades, we get 3 accounts with no monthly fees and we don't have to keep a minimum in those accounts.
AFFJ
AFFJ,
ReplyDeleteWow...those are some great buys and you sure are putting your capital to work here. Congrats on adding more dividend income to your stream.
R2R
Thanks R2R - We have been blessed with decent income these past two months. And because we live on a budget, any extra income goes straight towards saving and investing. :)
DeleteCheers to more passive income! AFFJ
Thanks for sharing a pretty busy month with us. I like your TD buy as I have been adding to that position as well and still looking to average down on that one. Which brokerage do you use that give you 100 free trades a year? Congrats on that awesome January dividend income as well. Look forward to your next update.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome DivHut, thanks for stopping by. Also, thanks for pointing out the value in Canadian bank stocks. I actually started watching Canadian banks after one of your posts. :)
DeleteAs for brokerage account, we use Wells Fargo. Since we are PMA account holders, we get 100 free trades a year. Such a blessing as it has allowed us to take a different approach when investing. It essentially allows us to feel out the water temperature when investing in new companies, rather than jump right in feet or head first. :)
Until next time, Cheers! AFFJ
Wow great list of buys this month. Congrats on adding $159.98 into your dividend income.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tawcan...definitely thankful and blessed to have had the ability to invest. Aside from NOV, I think each one of our purchases this past month have had a decent gain already! As for NOV, I can't explain it. On Tuesday, they just announce that they beat 4 quarter earning with strong operating margins across all segments...and the market reacts with 10% drop (going from $55s down below $50 at one point on Friday). AFFJ
DeleteWow. A lot of good purchases this month. I am jealous that your broker gave 100 free trades. I wish my broker does too Haha. I will ask them. What broker do you use?
ReplyDeleteBeSmartRich
Thanks BeSmartRich...it was a busy month and we would welcome it every month. Well, with 57 free trades left until 9/15 so we can still average roughly 7 trades a month until then. Hopefully, we can use up every single one. :)
DeleteWe use Well Fargo and receive 100 free trades because we have a PMA account with them.
